I managed to get my hands on a second Panasonic G85 with the original firmware on it (Thanks Suneel!). I knew I had a perfect opportunity to compare the IBIS improvements made by the new firmware and so I set to building a small rig. I mounted both cameras on my video tripod and took a series of pans, tilts and diagonal shots at both 12mm and 60mm on the 12-60mm kit lens that comes with the G85.
After a bad experience with a photo backdrop we purchased on Amazon, we decided to make something ourselves.
With around 25$ in supplies, we were able to increase the quality of our product shots and gain a versatile new tool for photo and video work.
This is expected to be a two-parter. When I get the camera back from Panasonic I’ll post a followup with the experience.
I bought the Panasonic G7 in I think October of last year. Could have been middle of September but I think I really started using it a lot in October when I started the Firworks YouTube channel. Since then it has generally been a good little camera. It shoots 4K and could not be simpler to use. The settings for video are very intuitive and you can adjust pretty much anything even while filming. Things are not all sunbows and rainshine in G7 land however. I’ve run into a few problems, some minor and one very serious. In this video I show an example of three problems I am facing with the camera.
After some dutiful service, my Pittsburgh Pro Flex-Head Ratchet isn’t as tight as it used to be. It still works but you have to hold the head while lining it up on a fastener or else it will flop all over the place. I took it apart to investigate and got an idea for a really quick and easy fix for floppy ratchets. This should work for any flex-head ratchet without detents.
Someone on Garage Journal made a post asking how wobbly the drawers were on the Harbor Freight US General Pro Tool Boxes. I thought I’d run out to the garage and give it a quick… wait for it…

I just got this little SJCAM M10+ 2K action cam the other day, and I noticed that there was new firmware for it available on the SJCAM website. Once I started looking into the update process, and watched the official SJCAM video, I got the idea that I should document the update process myself. I saw some people had a bit of confusion from the SJCAM video and hopefully this procedure is a bit clearer.
I just bought this Siglent SDS1102X oscilloscope this week. It arrived with old firmware on it. Or at least, not the newest firmware available on the Siglent website. While reading about the scope I saw a few people asking questions about the upgrade process, so I thought I’d video it as a reference for future updaters. Also I believe the update process should be identical for the SDS1202X oscilloscope as the only difference is the bandwidth.
